Mathematics

Mathematics is the foundation for understanding the world around us. It provides the tools to model complex systems, design technology, and analyze data to solve real-world challenges. The Red Rocks Community College Mathematics program equips students with critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills that are essential in STEM fields, finance, data science, and beyond. Students gain the ability to interpret data, solve quantitative problems, and communicate solutions effectively. RRCC math students are well-prepared to transfer to four-year institutions, where they can complete bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and then pursue careers in areas such as research, statistics, education, and other math-related fields.

Why Choose RRCC?

Red Rocks Community College provides a supportive and challenging environment for students studying mathematics. Faculty are skilled mathematicians and dedicated educators, and small class sizes give students more personalized instruction. Students develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for success as they advance their education and build careers in STEM-related fields. The program also offers courses in data science, giving students the opportunity to explore areas such as data visualization, machine learning, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.

Program Overview

The Mathematics Department has online, remote, and face to face options.

RRCC offers an Associate of Science (AS) in Mathematics, designed primarily for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. The degree is part of Colorado’s Associate Degree with Designation (DwD) pathway, allowing students who complete the required 60 credits to transfer to participating public institutions in the state to continue their studies in math.

Classes build a strong foundation in calculus, analytical reasoning, and computational methods. Students can also take extra data science courses to learn more about data visualization, statistical modeling, and machine learning.

Graduates who transfer to complete bachelor’s degrees in mathematics (and sometimes additional advanced degrees) go on to a variety of careers, including:

  • Actuary
  • Business Analyst
  • Data Analyst / Data Scientist
  • Mathematician
  • Operations Research Analyst
  • Software Developer
  • Statistician
  • Secondary Mathematics Teacher
